Equadorian Coffees
Ecuador has everything it takes to grow great coffee. Located between Colombia and Peru, its mountains have plenty of altitude, weather patterns, and soil for quality coffee production. Yet, there is little true specialty coffee produced in Ecuador, nor does there seem to be any trend or any incentive in that direction.
Causes appear to be poor infrastructure, shipment delays, and tainted shipping containers. There is one way to produce good coffee, and a thousand ways to ruin it. Hence, the Ecuadorian Agriculture Department and farmer Co-Operatives have started to focus on education, more modern equipment and adherence to proven growing practices.
Prior to this, it was not unusual for the 15 active Co-Ops in Ecuador to offer their coffee on consignment, as it was difficult to get established coffee brokers to take a chance on Ecuadorian coffee.
Results are finally beginning to show in a positive way; however, not yet to the extent that there is a single farm or estate bean we can bring you. We will be continually watching for a bean that consistently lives up to the potential of its origin. You will know about it soon thereafter.
